LAX pilots,

I hope all is well.

Next week I am out of town on business to the east coast for 5 days, so I wont be accessing any AvA e-mail and such.

If you need anything, please just wait until next Saturday.

Next weekend is the end of August, so I will be going through the roster to clean up any pilots who have not caught up. Also, some LOA folk are not coming back, and/or not communicating with me, so, you guys, please do something, or risk being removed from the roster over the Labor Day weekend.

Don’t forget out 9/11 memorial day flight on 9/13. I hope you all can make the flights. Events has coordinated with the ARTCCs to get us some coverage. ZLA will be there for the many expected arrivals into our home airport.

Check the events page often, there are always events posted there and even on the AvA home page every weekend. I did an FNO into Atlanta on Friday and it was a fun experience with great ATC and lousy weather!

Brian Gefrich and Joel DeYoung are pleased to announced that

after a long wait, a public beta of SquawkBox 4 is now available

to try on the VATSIM network.  This version of SquawkBox works

with Flight Simulator 2002, 2004 and FSX.  It has been tested on

Windows XP and Vista.  Download this latest beta version and

help find and resolve the last outstanding bugs.

The following issues are already known to occur:

- Transponder module may toggle to “ACTIVE” when connecting to a

server, regardless of current setting.  You may still set the

transponder to STANDBY mode after the connection is made.

- Switching your sound device in the settings while receiving a

voice transmission can cause crashes.

LAX pilots,

We are already half way through August, and it looks like many of you are getting some flying in! Thats good to see. Many LOA’s are coming back as well, however there are still quite a few of you out there….

Try to check out Beijing before the Olympics are done. Its a long haul (never been there), but you can fly the big jets to get there. I saw on the forums the POSKY 777 is a really neat plane. Why not download that baby and fly over to pick up Michael Phelps and all his gold medals?!?!?!?!

Anyway, be on the looking for some upcoming events later this month and Sept.

The 9/11 flight will be on Saturday 9/13 if any of you are interested in flying cross country on that day. Hard to believe that was almost 7 years ago…..
